According to the authorities, the water supply for around 260,000 people in the north of the Ukrainian region of Donetsk has been cut off "for the unforeseeable future" following Russian shelling. The cities of Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka, Kostyantynivka and surrounding villages are affected, Governor Vadym Filashkin announced on Telegram.

Last week, Wednesday, two plants of the local water supplier were severely damaged. Technically, it is currently not possible to resume work. Alternative ways of supplying water are being worked on.

Ukraine has been fending off a Russian invasion for over two and a half years. Moscow lays claim to over a fifth of Ukrainian territory. More than half of the Donetsk region, including the regional capital of the same name, is under Russian control.
