Sanija Ameti's lawyer called for an acquittal at the Zurich District Court on Wednesday. Ameti's shots were not an attack on the convictions of others, but an effect of her war trauma.

The shots at the picture with Mary and Jesus had been aimed at "freeing herself from the dead end of pain", said the lawyer. It had nothing to do with blasphemy. "She got into a state in which she only acted mechanically."

During the Bosnian war, Ameti's older brother was killed in front of her eyes. For thirty years, she didn't talk to anyone about it, the lawyer said. After the Instagram post, she talked to her mother about it for the first time.

"Proceedings are being misused for other purposes"

"There is no evidence that she has endangered the public peace", said the lawyer. On the other hand, it is obvious that these proceedings are being misused for other purposes. "You only have to look at the list of complainants." These, such as the Young SVP or Massvoll, are concerned with the issue of remigration, i.e. that someone is going back to where he or she came from.

The public prosecutor's office is demanding a conditional fine of 100 daily rates of 100 francs and a fine of 2,500 francs for disturbing religious freedom.
