At the SPD's election campaign kick-off, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized the importance of responsibility in difficult times and once again defended the dismissal of FDP leader Christian Lindner as Finance Minister. "Times are serious, damn serious," he said at an election campaign conference at the Social Democrats' Berlin party headquarters. He spoke of war in Europe, economic upheaval and growing populism and extremism. "In such serious times, our country needs serious politics, responsible politics, (...) responsible politicians who care about the cause, about our country, not gamblers and not gamblers."

Scholz added that it was therefore necessary for him to show "Mr. Linder" the door. It is now crystal clear: "Lindner and his FDP have systematically sabotaged the work of the federal government for months." Around 500 constituency candidates and their teams are taking part in the event, which has been dubbed the "election victory conference".
