German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes more confidence is needed in Germany. No one who wants a good and sustainable future can be interested in a "collective bad mood", said Scholz at the annual meeting of the German Council for Sustainable Development in Berlin.

Scholz said that people in Germany were not that far apart on key issues. The majority of citizens are in favor of climate and nature conservation. The vast majority simply get on with it instead of complaining, he said, referring to the voluntary commitment of many people.
The German Council for Sustainable Development is an advisory body to the German government.
