Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has also blamed the city administration for the difficult heating and power supply situation in Kiev following the Russian airstrikes. "The equipment should have been procured and purchased before the winter, and the city administration of Kiev should now act many times faster to make life easier for the people, at least in February," demanded Zelensky in his evening video address. The mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, is regarded as Zelensky's political rival.

Russian attacks with drones, missiles and cruise missiles at the beginning of the year hit Kiev's energy supply hard. At times, there was even no running water in some households. According to Selenskyj, there are indications that Moscow is planning a new wave of heavy attacks.
The head of state expressed his gratitude for the help that has been sent to the capital from all over the country, be it with brigades of electricians or the delivery of hot meals to those in need. The Ukrainian head of state promised to expand the aid if necessary, but at the same time pointed out that the situation was also difficult in other regions.
