Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi will attend the funeral service for the late Pope Francis.

This was confirmed by presidential advisor Dmytro Lytvyn to the Ukrainian news agency RBK-Ukraine. Selenskyj will travel to Rome together with his wife Olena.

According to the Vatican, the Pope died on Monday. Numerous international guests are expected to attend the funeral on Saturday - including US President Donald Trump.

Although Ukraine is an Orthodox country, the Greek Catholic Church, which is mainly based in the western part of the Eastern European country and has around five million followers, recognizes the Pope as its head.
