At least six people have been killed and dozens more injured in a new massive attack involving hundreds of drones in Ukraine, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. At least 800 drones had already entered the country's airspace since the beginning of the day and the attack was continuing, Zelensky announced on Telegram. He spoke of "terror".

"It is certainly no coincidence that one of the longest massive Russian attacks against Ukraine took place just as the President of the United States arrived for a visit to China - a visit from which many expect a lot," said Zelensky. He had previously expressed the hope that US President Donald Trump would influence China to end its support for the Russian war of aggression.

Beijing officially describes itself as neutral in the conflict. However, by buying Russian oil and gas, China is pouring money into Russia's war chest. And Russia, which is subject to Western sanctions, in turn benefits from Chinese goods, which it also uses for its arms industry.

Selenskyj: Russia exploits difficult geopolitical situation

Zelensky accused Russia of exploiting the difficult geopolitical situation to "poison the general political climate". In a speech in the Romanian capital Bucharest at a summit of nine Eastern European NATO members (B9), he called on the allies to further strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities. Russia must also be forced to the negotiating table with further pressure - for example with tougher sanctions - in order to end the war.

In Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov repeated the Russian demand to Zelenskyi to withdraw his troops from the Donetsk region. Then there could be a ceasefire. Zelensky categorically refuses to give the areas controlled by Kiev to Russia.

Russia wants to increase the pressure on Ukraine to agree to the Russian conditions for peace negotiations by intensifying drone strikes after a three-day ceasefire. Selensky reported hits in Transcarpathia, the Lviv region, Volhynia, Ivano-Frankivsk and the Rivne region. "Unfortunately, there are also hits in many other of our regions: in the Vinnytsia, Chernivtsi, Khmelnytskyi, Dnipro, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhya, Zhytomyr, Kiev, Mykolaiv, Odessa, Sumy, Cherkasy, Kharkiv and Kherson regions."
