Despite the Easter ceasefire ordered by Kremlin President Vladimir Putin, Russian forces have again attacked during the night, according to Ukrainian reports. There had already been 59 cases of Russian shelling and 5 attacks by Russian units in various directions of the front line by 6.00 a.m. (5.00 a.m. CEST), Selenskyj announced on Platform X. Overall, the Russian army is trying to give the impression that it is adhering to the ceasefire. Nevertheless, there were isolated attempts to advance in Ukraine and inflict damage on Kiev's armed forces, he said.

Between 6 p.m. (5 p.m. CEST) on Saturday and midnight (11 p.m. CEST), there were 387 cases of shelling and 19 attacks by Russian forces, according to Selenskyj. "Drones were used by the Russians 290 times," he continued. There were also dozens of drone attacks during the night.
Proposal for a 30-day ceasefire
"Russia must fully comply with the terms of the ceasefire," demanded Selensky. Ukraine's proposal to extend the ceasefire at midnight local time for 30 days is still on the table. "We will act in accordance with the actual situation on the ground." Ukraine will continue to respond to attacks.
Russian President Putin had surprisingly ordered the unilateral cessation of hostilities on Saturday for Easter - allegedly for humanitarian reasons. Ukraine followed suit and demanded that an earlier US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire be implemented. Although Putin had welcomed the initiative in March, he also imposed conditions. He emphasized that the causes of the conflict must first be eliminated.
Selenskyj: Evil will be overcome
In a video message released in Kiev at Easter, Zelensky said that Ukraine was united on the 1152nd day of the Russian war of aggression. Evil will be overcome by good, life will triumph, he said, dressed in festive Ukrainian costume. The Ukrainian people are going through a difficult time, but are not losing faith, Selensky emphasized. He asked "God" to protect the country and its defenders at the front.
