The Turkish coast guard has recovered seven dead refugees in the Aegean Sea. 19 people were rescued alive, wrote Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya on Platform X. The coast guard accused Greece of having pushed the boat back into Turkish waters beforehand, citing statements from those rescued. It later collided with rocks near the coast and sank.

In the morning, the coast guard was informed that refugees had been discovered on a Turkish island off the coast of Cesme, the interior minister wrote. A fisherman had rescued one person from the sea and others were believed to be in the water. The coast guard then rescued 18 people from the island. The search for one person is continuing.

In the Aegean Sea, there are sometimes only short distances between Turkey and the Greek islands and therefore the EU. The Turkish coastguard reports almost daily reports of refugees being picked up there, especially in the summer months.
