A man has opened fire on police officers near the Israeli embassy in Jordan and was subsequently shot dead by security forces. The man shot at a police patrol in the capital Amman and then tried to flee, the police directorate told the Petra news agency. Security forces pursued him and killed him in a gun battle. Three police officers were hospitalized with injuries. The police were looking for the shooter, who was carrying several incendiary devices during the attack, for various crimes.

The news channel Al-Arabija showed footage of police cordoning off streets near the Israeli embassy. It is located in the Rabia district, where there have been several protests against Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip.

Jordan signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1994. However, the vast majority of the population rejects the treaty. Many people in Jordan have Palestinian roots.
