Several climate activists have been arrested for a sit-in blockade at London's Gatwick Airport. Several protesters had entered a terminal in the morning and sat on the floor.

This was reported by the British news agency PA. The airport is still operating normally. Eight demonstrators were arrested.

The protest group Just Stop Oil published a video showing activists with labeled T-shirts, orange placards and blocks sitting in front of a passageway. Passengers climb over them with luggage.

Gatwick Airport is located south of London and is one of several airports in the British capital region. The Just Stop Oil movement regularly protests for more climate protection. For example, it is calling for the extraction and use of oil, gas and coal to be phased out by 2030. Most recently, several activists were sentenced to prison for planning a highway protest lasting several days.
