The situation in the Lötschental is "satisfactory at the moment". The night was "fairly calm" and the Lonza continued to flow over the debris cone, said Valais State Councillor Stéphane Ganzer on RTS on Saturday morning. There had been no particular problems.

On Friday evening, the State Council took the decision to open the floodgates of the Ferden VS dam. It had previously warned the communities downstream to make room for the incoming water.

The heat these days is accelerating the snowmelt, while heavy rainfall has been announced for next week, said Ganzer. Both will increase the amount of water in the dam and thus the risk of debris flows.

"Nature sets the rhythm," said the State Councillor, who is responsible for security, institutions and sport. He also pointed out the great solidarity with those affected. Spontaneous offers of help from the population or authorities from all the cantons of western Switzerland as well as Bern and Zurich have already been received.
