There is no longer any danger on the roads below the evacuated Grisons mountain village of Brienz from possible avalanches or debris flows. The responsible municipality of Albula therefore lifted some of the safety measures on Sunday afternoon.

The previously soaked ground was able to dry out, the municipality wrote in its latest situation report on Sunday morning. It therefore planned to lift the bans for cyclists and pedestrians on the affected cantonal roads and the hiking trail at midday. Fishing and canoeing on the Albula were also permitted again.
The restrictions had been in place since last Monday. Several rockfalls had occurred due to precipitation, which accelerated the debris pile above the village. Masses of rubble can also move much further on wet ground than on dry ground, according to the municipality. There was therefore a small risk of a debris avalanche reaching the roads.
In Brienz and the surrounding area, however, it is still forbidden to enter the area. As soon as the risk situation allows, evacuees will be able to visit the village again during the day. Brienz has been evacuated since last November.
