Greenhouse gas emissions fell the most in industry, followed by the building sector, as the Federal Office for the Environment announced in its greenhouse gas inventory on Tuesday. In contrast, emissions of climate pollutants from transport and agriculture remained at the same level as in 2022.
Compared to 1990, greenhouse gas emissions from Swiss buildings fell by 46 percent to 9.1 million tons, 0.3 million tons less than in 2022. This means that buildings account for 22.2 percent of total emissions. In the industrial sector, the reduction compared to 1990 is 32 percent and 0.7 million tons less than in 2022.
Transport emissions were 8 percent lower than in 1990, but at 13.7 million tons, they did not decrease compared to the previous year.
