The son of Brazil's former head of state Jair Bolsonaro is facing criminal proceedings in his home country for coercion of the judiciary. The First Chamber of the Supreme Court has allowed charges to be brought against the MP Eduardo Bolsonaro. Although the judges could still modify their decision by November 25, this has not yet happened in this body. Eduardo Bolsonaro currently lives in the United States. If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison.

According to the public prosecutor's office, he allegedly tried to put pressure on the Brazilian judiciary during the trial against ex-President Bolsonaro in order to obtain a more lenient sentence for his father. According to the report, he used his contacts in US government circles to enforce punitive tariffs on Brazilian products and sanctions against judges involved in the proceedings, for example. Jair Bolsonaro was sentenced to more than 27 years in prison by the Supreme Court in September for an attempted coup following his election defeat against incumbent head of state Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
