North Korea has fired a ballistic missile along the country's east coast. As South Korea's official news agency reported, citing the Chief of General Staff in Seoul, the projectile is said to have flown towards the Sea of Japan (Korean: East Sea). Further information, such as the type of missile or the flight range, is not yet known. The North Korean military last fired several short-range ballistic missiles at the end of October.

According to reports, North Korea's latest missile test is likely to be a reaction to current sanctions from Washington. On Tuesday (local time), the US Treasury Department placed eight North Korean individuals and two organizations on its sanctions list. They are accused of money laundering and cybercrime.
