South Korea has announced an investigation following North Korea's claim that a drone violated its airspace. According to South Korea's official news agency Yonhap, the government wanted to look into the latest drone incident together with the military and police. Results would be published immediately. The government had no intention of angering or provoking the North, it added.

Previously, the powerful sister of North Korea's ruler Kim Jong Un, Kim Yo Jong, had demanded an explanation from Seoul for the incidents via the state news agency KCNA. Should South Korea decide to provoke Pyongyang again in the future, it would never be able to cope with the terrible consequences that this would entail, she added.

What North Korea accuses the South of

Pyongyang had accused South Korea of violating North Korea's sovereignty with a drone flight. A surveillance drone is said to have filmed important facilities in North Korea on January 4. According to KCNA, North Korea's military shot down the flying object within its own airspace. The information cannot be independently verified.

North Korea also spoke of a similar case in September last year. South Korea's Defense Minister Ahn Gyu Back denied the involvement of the army in both cases.
