The special envoy appointed by US President Donald Trump, Keith Kellogg, is losing his responsibility for Russia and is now only responsible for Ukraine. "I am pleased to announce that General Keith Kellogg has been appointed Special Envoy for Ukraine," Trump wrote on his Truth Social network.

He made no mention of the fact that he himself had put the ex-military man in charge of negotiations for an end to the war in Ukraine and for both sides in November.

However, the Kremlin had exerted pressure to remove Kellogg from the game because he was allegedly pro-Ukrainian, the US television station NBC and other media reported in recent days.

Kellogg was not involved in important talks

In fact, Kellogg was not involved in important US talks on the Ukraine conflict in Russia or Saudi Arabia. Trump's contacts with Moscow went through his Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.

Kellogg will negotiate directly with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selensky and the Ukrainian leadership, Trump announced. Kellogg has a good working relationship with the Kiev leadership.

The ex-general has treated the Ukrainians more kindly than Trump himself or Vice President J.D. Vance. In the interim halt to US military aid, however, he compared them to a mule being hit on the nose with a square peg. "That's how you get their attention."

On Truth Social, Trump rejected the media's account that Russian President Vladimir Putin had kept Witkoff waiting for nine hours before a conversation on Thursday. "There was no wait". Witkoff also met with other Russian officials and had productive talks, he said.
