Following the war against Israel, Iran's judiciary has executed a suspected informer for Israel's foreign intelligence service. According to the Misan news agency, which is affiliated with the judiciary, the death sentence was carried out by hanging in the morning.

According to the report, the man is said to have worked in sensitive facilities in the Islamic Republic and passed on information to the Israeli foreign intelligence service Mossad. The judiciary did not provide any information on the man's age or profession.

Man allegedly revealed sensitive information

According to Misan, the man had also provided Mossad with information that led to the targeted killing of a nuclear scientist in the war with Israel. In addition to military targets, Israel had also killed at least ten researchers in June in order to sabotage the Iranian nuclear program.

Even during the war, the Iranian judiciary announced summary proceedings. It was initially unclear when the man was arrested and sentenced. According to the judiciary, he was arrested after a trip abroad, during which he is said to have had contact with Mossad liaison agents.

Almost 1,000 executions last year

Human rights activists have been criticizing the rigorous application of the death penalty in Iran for years. They accuse the judiciary of using executions to intimidate critical voices. According to the United Nations, almost 1,000 people were executed in Iran last year.

In June, Israel waged war against Iran for twelve days and bombed key nuclear facilities together with the USA. The basic conflict between the arch-enemies continues despite the ceasefire - a diplomatic solution is not in sight. After the war, Iran's leadership reacted domestically with a wave of repression.
