Following the electoral defeat of the centrist camp in France, incumbent Prime Minister Gabriel Attal wants to contribute to the renewal of President Emmanuel Macron's party as parliamentary group leader. As the television station BFMTV reported, 84 of the 98 Renaissance MPs registered for the election voted for the 35-year-old as the new leader of the group in the French National Assembly.
In a message of thanks to the "Parisien", Attal promised to "build bridges with the political forces that are committed to the Republic and the success of France while respecting the values of the party". He had previously stated that he wanted to rethink and reinvent the party. Attal was the only candidate for the leadership of the parliamentary group.
Search for new government continues
France continues to search for a new government after the election. Three political blocs emerged from the vote, none of which achieved an absolute majority. Following his failure in the election, Macron had initially rejected Attal's resignation in order to ensure the country's stability until a new government is formed.
The left-wing alliance of Greens, Socialists, Communists and the left-wing party La France Insoumise, which won the most seats in the National Assembly, has not yet been able to agree on a suitable person for the post of prime minister.
