According to the report, the Abu Shouk camp on the outskirts of the town of El Fascher in North Darfur was attacked by units of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Due to the siege of El Fascher by the RSF, there was already a shortage of medicines, medical personnel and food in the camp, which is inhabited by internally displaced people. According to the Sudan Doctors Network, the treatment of the injured is therefore taking place under catastrophic humanitarian and health conditions.

UN speaks of the world's biggest hunger crisis

According to UN figures, the RSF attacked the Abu Shouk camp at least 16 times between January and June, killing at least 212 people. 111 others were injured.

War between the RSF and the Sudanese army has been raging in Sudan since April 2023. According to the UN, the conflict has developed into the world's largest hunger crisis. Around 25 million people - half of the country's population - are suffering from acute hunger, and 3.5 million women and children are affected by malnutrition. All trade routes and supply lines to El Fasher are blocked, leading to extreme prices for the few remaining goods. Some inhabitants are reportedly subsisting on animal feed and food waste. Both warring parties are accused of serious human rights violations.
