This is what his defense lawyer told the news agency TT at the district court in Stockholm. The 18-year-old, together with a 17-year-old, is also charged with attempted murder in Eppstein in the German state of Hesse. However, the accused denies this crime.
According to his lawyer Johan Åkermark, the young man confessed to preparing a terrorist attack on a cultural festival in the heart of Stockholm. Among other things, he had started to build bombs for this, according to TT. The 18-year-old Swede had previously confessed to being a member of a terrorist organization. According to the public prosecutor's office, this was the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia.
Knocked on the door armed with knives in Eppstein
Little is known about the case in Germany so far. According to the indictment, the two teenagers are said to have traveled to the small Hessian town of Eppstein in August 2024 to commit murder. According to the public prosecutor's office, the suspects armed themselves with knives and knocked on the door of their victim's accommodation. However, when another person opened the door, the murder plans were abandoned, they say.
There is no direct connection between the attempted murder and the planned terrorist attack in Stockholm, said public prosecutor Henrik Olin at a press conference at the arraignment. The 17-year-old alleged accomplice of the accused also denies the accusation.
