Swiss population supports equality for LGBTQ people

Support for equality and the protection of LGBTQ people remained stable across gender, age, language region, education level, party affiliation and settlement type, as the study shows.

At the same time, 69% of respondents expressed concern about the increasing number of anti-queer attacks and discrimination. Only supporters of the SVP, with a share of 57%, said they were not concerned.

84% of respondents call for a legal ban on discrimination in the workplace on the basis of sexual orientation. And 72% are in favor of a national ban on so-called "conversion therapies".

The figures thus clearly refute the claim often made in the media and politics that the LGBTQ community demands too much and is therefore met with rejection, as Pink Cross, which commissioned the study, announced on Wednesday. Support in society for equality and protection for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer people is broadly anchored and cross-party.

1010 people were surveyed for the study between April 2 and 28 of the current year. According to the authors, the study is representative of the adult population in German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland.
