Almost 30 million Swiss francs were used to support 44 projects for medical care, housing repairs and the protection of children in Ukraine, writes Swiss Solidarity in a press release issued on Monday. A large proportion - 11.5 million Swiss francs - also went to 27 projects in Turkey and Syria, which were affected by the severe earthquake.
Donations were collected with the help of four appeals. The total of 34.4 million francs received was divided between the devastating storms in Switzerland in the summer (13 million francs), the civilian population in the Middle East (5.9 million), children affected by violence and abuse in Switzerland and worldwide (5 million) and the humanitarian crisis in Sudan (2.7 million).
In the previous year, CHF 54 million was collected and almost CHF 70 million was used. This was the highest level of support since the tsunami in South-East Asia in 2004.
