The latest figures from a representative long-term study by the University of Zurich show that 20 to 29-year-olds even spend 8.4 hours a day online. "For the first time, the internet is more important for this age group than personal contacts, both for information and entertainment," said study leader Michael Latzer in a press release issued by the university on Thursday.
Artificial intelligence is also being used more and more frequently in Switzerland. Since the market launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, the proportion of the population that has already used generative AI has risen from 37% (2023) to 73% (2025). Almost half of Swiss people now use generative AI at least once a month, with the figure rising to 84% among 14 to 19-year-olds.
