In 2024, the core contribution still amounted to CHF 47.28 million. Most of the funds allocated for the current year will flow into the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Meanwhile, two million will flow into the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), according to the statement.
The reduction in contributions is a consequence of the cuts to the 2025 budget for international cooperation approved by the Federal Assembly last December.
In Wednesday's communiqué, the Federal Council also wrote that Switzerland wanted to send a "clear signal for long-term international cooperation" with its contributions.
The UNDP is active in 170 countries. It strengthens the resilience of populations and institutions in the face of crises, the Federal Council wrote. Meanwhile, the UNCDF contributes to "ensuring that the least developed countries and the most marginalized population groups have access to financial services and investment capital".
