Switzerland will support the World Food Program, the UN Refugee Agency and the International Red Cross with almost CHF 250 million in 2025 and 2026. This was decided by the Federal Council. Global humanitarian aid is under pressure.

Since the new US administration led by Donald Trump drastically cut or even cancelled financial aid for several development aid organizations, they have been facing major problems. Meanwhile, the Federal Council is reaffirming its support for the World Food Program (WFP), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), as it announced on Wednesday.

The national government is providing the World Food Program with CHF 73.4 million for the years 2025 and 2026, and the UNHCR with CHF 64 million over the same period. The ICRC will receive a contribution of CHF 112 million - in addition to the CHF 80 million that Switzerland pays each year to support the ICRC headquarters in Geneva.
