Following the mobilization of the National Guard ordered by US President Donald Trump and the arrival of the first soldiers, there were initially no major protests in the Los Angeles area. According to local media and television images, tense calm prevailed in the city on Sunday morning (local time). The first 300 soldiers took up positions at three locations.

A few dozen peaceful demonstrators gathered in front of a federal prison building in Los Angeles, which was protected by National Guard soldiers in combat gear, as images from the US broadcaster CNN showed. A reporter outside the building explained that there were initially more journalists than demonstrators there in the morning. The National Guard soldiers carried automatic weapons and sticks, and several military vehicles could be seen behind them.

The US military had previously stated that the soldiers were deployed in the Los Angeles area to protect federal property and personnel.

Trump had ordered the mobilization of at least 2,000 National Guard soldiers on Saturday evening (local time) due to ongoing protests against officials from the US immigration authority ICE, which is also responsible for deportations. There have also been isolated incidents of rioting during the protests since Friday.
