As the children's rights organization announced on Thursday, around 1.5 million beneficiaries will lose vital support if the US government confirms the decision it announced at the end of January. Terre des Hommes aid projects in Bangladesh and Egypt would be particularly affected.
The US State Department announced at the end of January that Secretary of State Marco Rubio had initiated a review of all foreign aid programs. This was to ensure that they were efficient and in line with US foreign policy as part of the America First agenda.
For the time being, the US administration has decided on a 90-day freeze on the majority of foreign aid. But Terre des Hommes fears that the aid could stop altogether.
