With martial rhetoric, US President Donald Trump invokes the strength of the American military. "We have the greatest armed forces in the world" and they are feared all over the world, said Trump during a speech at the Fort Bragg military base in the US state of North Carolina. The army of the US military is the greatest fighting force that has ever existed - it will never fail.

"If you dare to threaten the American people, American soldiers will hunt you down, destroy you and crush you into oblivion," said Trump. America's enemies have learned this time and time again.

"For two and a half centuries, our soldiers have marched into the raging fires of battle and wiped out America's enemies," the Republican said. "Our army has crushed foreign empires, humiliated kings, overthrown tyrants and chased terrorist savages to the gates of hell. Our soldiers will not rest until they have won."

"Unyielding" and "unstoppable"

Trump was speaking on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the US Army, which is to be celebrated with a major military parade in the capital Washington this weekend. The Army is a branch of the US military - alongside the Navy, Air Force and others. Trump said each branch of the military has played a critical role in protecting America in the past, "but no one has fought, bled and won more than the U.S. Army."

The president said those who have been foolish enough to challenge the US Army over the past 250 years have faced "unyielding strength, unbreakable spirit and unstoppable, overwhelming force". The US army should continue to dominate America's opponents for the next 250 years.

Trump plans big military spectacle

The big military parade in Washington will be held on Saturday evening US East Coast time - this day is also Trump's 79th birthday. US media reported that thousands of soldiers were expected. Armored vehicles are expected to roll through the streets of the US capital. The spectacle will also be accompanied by military aircraft. During his first term in office (2017-2021), Trump had already planned a military parade based on the French model, but scrapped the project at the time due to high costs.

The US president is currently making a name for himself with the deployment of soldiers at protests in Los Angeles, where people are demonstrating against Trump's migration policy. Trump has mobilized several thousand members of the National Guard and the regular armed forces for the deployment there against the wishes of the Californian governor - a highly unusual and controversial move.
