Russian troops are only a few kilometers from Pokrovsk in the east, south and southwest. As the city has been a focal point of the fighting for months, it has been badly destroyed. Only a few thousand of the once more than 60,000 inhabitants remain.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the Ukrainian defenders in this section of the front on Saturday.
