CHF 51 million of this will be borne by the canton, while the municipalities will pay a good CHF 10 million, the Ticino cantonal government explained to the media in Bellinzona on Wednesday. The initiatives are to be fully implemented by the beginning of 2029.
The first of the two popular initiatives demands that health insurance premiums should not exceed 10 percent of a household's disposable income in future. The second provides for an amendment to the tax law in order to increase the maximum deductible amounts for insurance premiums.
Ticino has been at the forefront of premium increases for several years. Before the vote last September, the cantonal government put the cost of implementing the proposals at CHF 350 million per year.
