That is why he also took a cognitive test, which Biden refused. "I don't know what else to tell you other than that I got all the answers right," the Republican told reporters. However, he did not give details on the nature of the test or the specific results.
Trump said that he had also taken cognitive tests several times in the past and had never gotten anything wrong. The president also raved about his condition during the health check. "Overall, I felt I was in very good shape. A good heart. A good soul. A very good soul." The report with the results will be published on Sunday, he announced.
The presidential check and the age thing
One of the peculiarities of US politics is that presidents in the United States have to disclose their health from time to time. This is not a legal requirement, but it has become a kind of ritual that no president can avoid.
In Biden's case in particular, the health checks attracted a lot of attention each time, as there were major doubts about the Democrat's mental fitness at the end of his term of office. For this reason, Biden withdrew from the race for a second term just months before the 2024 presidential election. At 78, Biden had entered the White House in 2021 as the oldest president of all time. Trump replaced him in this ranking when he took office in January. The Republican also moved into the government headquarters in Washington at the age of 78, but was a few months older than Biden when he took office. Trump will be 79 years old in June.
Trump's early dementia test in 2018
The Republican had also been confronted with speculation about his mental state during his first term in office (2017 to 2021) - and with doubts about his mental capacity to hold office. At the time, Trump tried to dispel these with cognitive tests. In January 2018, he underwent a test that is used for the early detection of suspected dementia and Alzheimer's disease, among other things. In the test, the patient has to recognize drawn animals such as a lion or a rhinoceros or trace a cube. There are also questions aimed at concentration and memory. Trump passed with 30 out of 30 points at the time and expressed his pride. The Republican has described himself in the past as a "mentally very stable genius".
