After fierce verbal attacks against Zohran Mamdani, US President Donald Trump meets personally with the newly elected mayor of New York.

The Republican announced on the Truth Social platform that he would receive the left-wing Democrat at the White House in Washington on Friday. In the announcement, Trump once again referred to him as a "communist" who had requested the meeting.

Mamdani's team confirmed the meeting. According to his spokeswoman, such a meeting with the US President is customary for a newly elected mayor. They wanted to talk about public safety, economic stability and the affordability of everyday life that New Yorkers had voted for around two weeks ago.

On the day of his election victory - and even before - Mamdani himself had not been sparing with harsh criticism of Trump. On MS NOW, he explained that they had contacted the White House because they wanted to meet with everyone as long as it was for the benefit of the 8.5 million New Yorkers who have to afford their daily lives in the most expensive city in the USA. "I want to tell the president very openly what it means to really stand up for New Yorkers," said Mamdani.

The left-wing politician - who had long been considered an outsider in the race for the office - came out on top in the New York mayoral election on November 4. He will take office at the turn of the year.
