He will also make a stop in the Egyptian capital Cairo, the Republican announced in the White House ahead of the planned start of his trip on Sunday. He did not give exact dates for the individual stops. Trump is expected to return to the USA on Tuesday evening.

In the Gaza conflict, a peace plan proposed by Trump and supported by Israel's government and the Islamist organization Hamas should lead to the release of hostages kidnapped from Israel in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in the coming days. A ceasefire, which should also allow new aid deliveries, has already come into force. However, the further steps that should lead to a lasting peace have not yet been finalized.

On Friday, Trump had said that the hostages should be released on Monday or Tuesday and that he would probably be there. The President has now specified that the hostages are to be released on Monday. In addition to his speech to the Knesset, the Israeli parliament, Trump also mentioned Cairo as a travel stop.

Recently, the US President had already said that he would travel to Egypt to attend an "official signing" of the agreement between Israel and Hamas. Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is planning a ceremony to mark the agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. It is not yet clear when the ceremony will take place.
