"At this very moment, thousands of Ukrainian soldiers are surrounded by the Russian military and are in a very bad and vulnerable position," Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social. In order to prevent a massacre, he asked Putin to spare their lives.
It was not clear from the post how Trump had conveyed this message. His special envoy Steve Witkoff had spoken to Putin in the Kremlin on Thursday evening. In recent days, Moscow troops have pushed into the Ukrainian bridgehead in the Kursk region. The Russian military said that the last Ukrainians had been encircled. There was no confirmation of this from the Kiev side. The information from Moscow cannot be confirmed independently either.
