US President Donald Trump has called on Israel to show restraint towards Syria. The US is very pleased with the developments in Syria under the leadership of President Ahmed al-Sharaa, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. It is therefore very important that Israel maintains a strong and honest dialog with Syria and that "nothing happens that could hinder Syria's development into a prosperous state", Trump wrote to Israel.

Following the fall of ruler Bashar al-Assad and the takeover of the government by al-Sharaa, Israel repeatedly launched attacks in the neighboring country. During clashes in the south of the country between Sunni Bedouin organizations and Druze, Israel intervened with air strikes on the side of the Druze at times. Among other things, the Ministry of Defense and the military headquarters in Damascus were bombed.

In November, Trump received al-Sharaa in the White House as the first Syrian head of state since the Arab country's independence in 1946. "We want Syria to be a very successful country. And I believe this leader can do that," Trump said at the time.
