He thinks a solution will be found that will make Nato and the USA "very happy", Trump said a few hours before setting off for the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. At the same time, he reiterated his well-known position that the USA needs Greenland for security reasons.
When asked how far he would go to bring the island into US possession, Trump said: "You'll see."
In connection with his trip to Davos, Trump also said that the USA had planned many meetings on Greenland. He had previously announced a meeting of the parties involved in the Greenland conflict between the USA and Europe in Davos. The Republican left open who would actually take part.
Trump had recently left no doubt that he wanted to take possession of Greenland, which belongs to Denmark, by any means necessary. In response to the solidarity of European NATO countries with Denmark and Greenland, he announced that he would impose punitive tariffs from February 1 in order to break down resistance to the sale of the Arctic island to the USA.
When asked about the fact that the Greenlanders did not want to be part of the USA, Trump said that if he spoke to them, they would certainly be delighted.
