US President Donald Trump could travel to the Middle East peace talks in the region this weekend. The current indirect negotiations in Egypt between Israel and Hamas on a US plan to end the Gaza war are going well, Trump said during an appearance in Washington. If successful, he would probably fly out on Sunday or late on Saturday, Trump said.

Talks between negotiators from Israel and the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas have been underway since Monday in the Egyptian coastal town of Sharm el-Sheikh.
Israeli media reported, citing a high-ranking official, that both sides could reach an agreement on Thursday or Friday. The hostages could then be released. This could happen on Saturday or at the beginning of next week at the earliest.
CNN reported that Israel assumes that Hamas may not be able to find and hand over all the dead hostages in the Gaza Strip. According to the report, the Israeli government is aware that Hamas may not know the whereabouts of some of the 28 dead hostages or be able to recover their bodies. According to one source, seven to nine people are involved, another source speaks of ten to 15 people.
Israel assumes that only 20 of the 48 hostages remaining in the Gaza Strip are still alive. Hamas has seen the hostages as a crucial bargaining chip in the negotiations to achieve its own goals - such as an end to the war in Gaza.
Talks about Trump's peace plan
The talks are based on Trump's peace plan, which provides for the release of all remaining Hamas hostages in return for a ceasefire in the Gaza war and the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners from Israel's jails. Other core objectives of the 20-point plan include the disarmament of Hamas and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from the largely destroyed Gaza Strip as well as large amounts of humanitarian aid for the suffering civilian population of the coastal area, which is to be demilitarized and rebuilt.
At the beginning of the talks, Hamas demanded reliable guarantees from negotiating circles that Israel would not continue its attacks after the release of the hostages, according to information from the German Press Agency.
