US President Donald Trump says he does not want to meet Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin until he can be sure of an agreement in the Ukraine war. When asked what Russia would have to do for Trump to schedule a new meeting with Putin, the US President replied to journalists on board the government aircraft Air Force One: "I will have to know that we will reach a deal. I'm not going to waste my time."

A few days ago, the US President had rejected the prospect of an early meeting with Putin - and postponed it indefinitely. In addition, his administration imposed new sanctions against Russia for the first time in Trump's second term. As justification, it explicitly referred to Putin's unwillingness to end the war of aggression against Ukraine.
Trump now reiterated that he was disappointed and had believed in peace in the region at a much earlier stage than in the Middle East. Shortly afterwards, he moved on to another conflict: "Armenia and Azerbaijan - that was very difficult," he said. In fact, Putin had said to him on the phone: "Gosh, that was fantastic." The US president repeatedly lists conflicts that he claims to have ended - even if peace researchers do not share this assessment.
