US President Donald Trump is calling for the dismissal of reporters from CNN and the New York Times because they reported on intelligence findings on the strike against Iran. The Republican wrote on the Truth Social platform: "Fake news reporters from CNN & "The New York Times" should be fired - immediately!!!" He spoke of bad people with bad intentions.

In recent days, Trump has repeatedly accused the media companies of false reporting - sometimes using strong language. CNN and the New York Times had reported on a DIA report classified as "top secret", which cast doubt on Trump's account of the extent of the destruction of Iran's nuclear facilities. The extent of the destruction has not yet been clarified.

It is extremely unusual for the government of a democratically governed country to openly call for the dismissal of journalists. In Germany, something like this does not usually happen in everyday political life. Freedom of the press is constitutionally protected here.
