According to President Donald Trump, US forces have destroyed the military facilities on the island of Kharg, which is important for Iran's oil industry.

He has refrained from destroying the oil infrastructure for the time being, the Republican wrote on the Truth Social platform. At the same time, he warned Iran that should Iran or anyone else attempt to obstruct the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, he would "immediately reconsider" the decision. Traffic through the strait, which is important for global oil exports, has come to a virtual standstill during the war due to an Iranian blockade.

Strategically important island

Iran's most important oil port is located on the island of Kharg in the Persian Gulf. According to media reports, almost all of the Islamic Republic's oil exports are transhipped there. It is therefore of great strategic importance.

Iran uses the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as leverage in its war with the USA and Israel. The strait, which is around 55 kilometers wide, lies between Iran and Oman and is considered one of the most important shipping routes for global oil exports. Even before the war began, experts assumed that Tehran's armed forces could severely disrupt trade, which is exactly what happened.

Iran uses blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as leverage

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards have so far maintained their blockade of the strait. According to the Fars news agency, which is close to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, the Guards' command center has stated that it is following an order from the new religious leader Modshaba Khamenei. With his threat, US President Trump is now trying to use his own leverage. He boasted that the bombing of the military facilities on the island of Kharg was one of the most violent "in the history of the Middle East".
