US President Donald Trump is no longer insisting on an immediate ceasefire in the Ukraine war. The meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska and telephone calls with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European allies went very well, Trump wrote on his short message service Truth Social. Everyone agreed that the best way was to reach a peace agreement directly and not a ceasefire agreement, which often does not hold.

Trump wrote of a "great and very successful day in Alaska". Selensky will now come to Washington. If everything works out, a meeting with Putin will then be arranged. Before the meeting with Putin, Trump had insisted on an immediate ceasefire.
