US President Donald Trump is sticking to his much-criticized plan to resettle Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and denies them the right of return. When asked whether the Palestinians would have the right to return to the coastal area, Trump said in an interview with Fox News: "No, they wouldn't, because they'll have much better housing." He was concerned with creating "a permanent place" for the Palestinians, the Republican said.

"We're going to build beautiful communities for the 1.9 million people. We're going to build beautiful communities, safe communities." These should be built a little away from "all this danger". Regarding Gaza, which has been destroyed by the Israeli military campaign against the Islamist Hamas, he said, "In the meantime, I would own that. Think of it as a real estate development for the future."
According to Trump, he expects to be able to strike a deal with Israel's neighbors Egypt and Jordan on the resettlement. However, both countries vehemently oppose the accommodation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had welcomed Trump's plans. Internationally, however, Trump's statements triggered fierce criticism. According to experts, expelling the Palestinians from the Gaza Strip would violate international law. The United Nations warns of "ethnic cleansing".
