Just one day after the assassination attempt on him, former US President Donald Trump wants to travel to the Republican Party Convention in the state of Wisconsin. The Republican presidential candidate wrote on the Truth Social platform, which he co-founded, that he would set off for Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon (local time) and would not allow his schedule to be thwarted.

A man had shot the 78-year-old and injured him in the ear during a Trump campaign speech in the state of Pennsylvania on Saturday. At the party convention in Milwaukee, which begins on Monday, Trump is expected to be named the official Republican presidential candidate later this week.

Trump wrote that he had initially considered postponing his trip to the party convention by two days due to the "terrible events". However, he had decided "that I cannot allow a 'shooter' or a potential assassin to force a change of schedule or anything else". He will therefore travel to Milwaukee later on Sunday, as originally planned.

The attack in Pennsylvania

The shooter was a 20-year-old man from Pennsylvania, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and was killed by security guards. During his attack, the perpetrator killed a family man who was a spectator at the event. Two other participants were seriously injured.

The assassination attempt on the Republican presidential candidate in the middle of the US election campaign caused worldwide horror. The attack also stoked fears of a political spiral of violence in the USA. Republican Trump wants to challenge Democratic incumbent Joe Biden in the presidential election on November 5.

Biden strongly condemned the attack on his opponent. Several high-ranking representatives of both parties in the USA also expressed their shock.
