US President Donald Trump does not want to fire anyone because of the so-called signals affair. "I'm not firing people because of fake news and witch hunts," Trump said in an NBC interview on Saturday. When asked whether he still had confidence in his National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Trump said that he did. This also applies to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Waltz had probably inadvertently invited a journalist, "Atlantic" editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg, to a chat group in the Signal app about an imminent attack on the Houthi militia in Yemen. In the chat, Hegseth provided detailed information about weapons and attack times. After the chat was published by The Atlantic, Waltz explained that he had no contact with Goldberg and did not know how his number had got into his address book.

Meanwhile, the New York Times reported that Trump is not as committed to his security adviser as he publicly claims. "Should I fire him?" he is said to have asked his advisors. He had also told confidants that he was unhappy with all the reporting on the chat affair, but he did not want to give the impression that he was giving in to media pressure.
