He will use the so-called Insurrection Act if the "corrupt politicians" of the state of Minnesota do not abide by the law and do not stop "the professional agitators and insurgents" from attacking "patriots" of the immigration authority ICE, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
He once again defended ICE officials, who have met with resistance with their raids against migrants in many Democratic cities, where they are often masked. They were just trying to do their job.
What the law allows in exceptional cases
In exceptional circumstances, the law allows the US president to deploy the military domestically to put down riots and take part in law enforcement measures. Under normal circumstances, this is not permitted in the USA. When protests against his migration policy were held in Los Angeles in the summer and Trump sent thousands of soldiers to the West Coast metropolis, he did not rule out using the law.
A week after the fatal shooting of a woman by an ICE officer in Minneapolis, another federal officer recently fired a shot there, injuring a man. The Department of Homeland Security reported on X about an escalated traffic stop on Wednesday evening (local time). The incident further inflamed the already tense atmosphere in the city. US media reported clashes between protesters and law enforcement officers that lasted for hours.
