US President Donald Trump threatens Russia with far-reaching sanctions and calls for peace negotiations with Ukraine. "To Russia and Ukraine: Sit down at the negotiating table immediately, before it's too late," he wrote on his online mouthpiece Truth Social. He is considering "large-scale bank sanctions, sanctions and tariffs against Russia" until a ceasefire and a final peace agreement are reached. According to the Republican, Moscow is currently literally flattening Ukraine on the battlefield.

Trump had already threatened Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin with sanctions over the war in Ukraine shortly after taking office. At the time, he wrote: "Stop this insane war. It will only get worse." Recently, however, Trump's tone towards Moscow has changed significantly. The US President talked at the mouth of the Russian President and verbally attacked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Following the scandal in the White House a week ago, the US government even temporarily suspended military aid for the country attacked by Russia.
Zelenskyi wanted to calm the waters with a letter
The USA recently announced its intention to resume negotiations with Ukraine. US special envoy Steve Witkoff spoke of a planned meeting with representatives of Ukraine in Saudi Arabia. Witkoff also spoke positively about a letter that Selenskyj had written to Trump after the rift in the Oval Office. "An apology was issued. It was acknowledged that the United States had done so much for Ukraine and a sense of gratitude was expressed," said Witkoff about the content of the letter.
Russian missile attack on Ukraine
During the night and in the early hours of the morning, Russia once again attacked neighboring Ukraine with heavy missile and drone fire - targeting energy facilities in particular. Russia has been systematically attacking Ukraine's energy supply in a war of aggression that has now been going on for more than three years. More than half of the power generation capacity has already been destroyed. The West has already imposed far-reaching sanctions on Russia as a result of the war of aggression.
