US President Donald Trump has expressed his surprise at the boos directed at his Vice President JD Vance at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Italy. Speaking to journalists, he pointed out that people liked his Republican party colleague.

To be fair, however, it had to be said that the US Vice President was currently traveling in another country - "in this country (the USA) he is not being booed", Trump emphasized.
However, this claim is not true. In the US capital Washington alone, Vance was publicly booed several times last year, for example when attending a concert at the Kennedy Center, a renowned cultural venue that Trump took control of shortly after taking office.
Boos not only for Vance
At the legendary San Siro football stadium in Milan on Friday, tens of thousands of spectators watched the opening show with the usual parade of athletes. At the same time, there were celebrations for the first time in three other locations - in Cortina, the second host city, as well as in Predazzo and Livigno. There were whistles and boos when Israel's team entered the stadium. And there were also boos when Vance was shown on the video screens as the US team entered the stadium. Trump's deputy watched the ceremony from the VIP stand.
Vance arrived in Milan on Thursday and met Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, among others, during his visit. Several hundred students marched through Milan before the opening ceremony in protest against the presence of US immigration officials from ICE at the Olympics. ICE officials have been criticized for their sometimes brutal actions against migrants in the USA. In the US Olympic delegation, they are responsible for protecting officials such as Vance and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
