US President Donald Trump wants to end the war in Sudan at the request of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Other Arab heads of state and government have also asked him to "use the power and influence of the presidency to put an immediate end to what is happening in Sudan", the Republican wrote on his online mouthpiece Truth Social. Together with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and other partners in the Middle East, he wants to end the atrocities and stabilize the country.

The RSF militia in Sudan began attacking the military and civilians in April 2023 because it refused to be integrated into the army. Since then, it has almost completely conquered the Darfur region in western Sudan and controls around half of Sudan's populated area. According to experts, it is supported by the United Arab Emirates with arms supplies, among other things, but the latter deny this.
Mediators from the USA, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt are currently trying to negotiate a three-month ceasefire. At the same time, a nine-month negotiation phase is being discussed, according to US government advisor for Africa, Massad Boulos. The RSF agreed to a ceasefire at the beginning of November. However, the army has yet to give its consent, probably also because the UAE is one of the mediators.
